About

Hi,

This site is intended to cover self sufficiency and self reliance in it’s broadest definition, and I hope to cover a wide variety of subjects that may help the individual to become more self sufficient, whilst also discussing why I believe we should strive for this in the first place.

I believe todays civilised world has lost touch with some of the things that are really important in life. We are so busy working, making money, paying our taxes, and spending the remainder (sometimes more) that we forget to take time to look around us and experience the amazing planet we live on, and the people we share it with. We buy plastic wrapped food from the supermarket, that has been shipped half way round the world, and has been produced for the lowest price possible. We are fooled into paying more for essentially the same product because it has a diffferent package, or a different “brand”. Everything we earn, everything we spend, and pretty much any activity where money is involved, also involves taxation of some form, often many times over.

In short, we’re on a treadmill, in the rat race, dependent on the system, or however you want to describe it.  Whatever you call it, you are dependent on it, a slave to it, and the worst thing of all is that many people don’t even realise it. Many never made a conscious choice to be dependent, they were just born into it.

I’m going to discuss how we can understand it, and take back our independence, ultimately becoming more self sufficient. I’m not going to try and tell you that we can all be fully self sufficient, as I don’t believe that is either possible in todays world, or desirable. I don’t believe many people, if any, have ever been completely self sufficient, but I do believe that a greater degree of independence and self sufficiency ultimately leads to two things we all value:

Freedom

Happiness

These two things are pretty important to me, and hopefully they are to you too. If so, read on.

Before I go any further I should say that the content of this site, and the views expressed are based on my opinion. If you disagree with it at any time, please feel free to comment and say what you disagree with, and equally as important “why” you disagree. I’m not always right. No one is. But I want this to become a discussion so we all learn more than we knew before we started this journey.

I should also tell you that whilst I live in a rural area of the UK, I do not live on a farm or smallholding. Many of the topics we will discuss do not presuppose that you do either, although this may be your ultimate goal. I think thats a good thing to point out. I believe self sufficiency is a journey, where you can go as far as you want to, in order to meet your own goals. By understanding the level of dependency you currently have, you may decide you want to go further than you currently realise. Again, thats up to you.

In future articles, I will share my pilosophy on self sufficiency in more detail, as well as get into some practical “how to” subject matter. Some of the articles may surprise you if you’ve been to any other self sufficiency sites, or read anything about the subject. Stick with me. It’s going to be fun.

Best wishes, and thanks for stopping by.
