Well it’s been a mad few weeks what with one thing another. We’ve entered the silly season at my day job, which has necessitated quite a bit of unexpected business travel. That’s pretty disruptive to everything else, including posting new articles, however I may have discovered a solution to that little challenge.
Exciting news! We’ve also found and had an offer accepted on a new property, which with luck, and a prevailing wind, we will be calling “home” sometime in early September! This is quite a development as this is just the property we’ve been looking for.
Actually, it’s not.
We concluded the “perfect” property doesn’t actually exist, but ironically this one is perfect for us. We evaluated it against our list of “must haves” and “would likes” and it came up trumps in all the areas that were really important to us, and we couldn’t identify any “negatives”.
It’s rural, in a lightly populated area, yet on the edge of a beautiful little village, and within relatively easy driving distance of everywhere we really need to be able to get to. There’s even an award winning traditional English pub a short way away, that does great food, and real ale.
The land itself is plenty big enough for our needs, and the house, which requires some work, is going to lend itself well to some “Self Sufficiency upgrades”. We will of course be sharing those with you as progress dictates, and in the spirit of shared learning we’ll post articles on failures (we’re realistic enough to know there will be some) as well as successes. You can expect photo and video posts on those alongside the rest of our content which we are working to develop.
Self Sufficiency World has become quite important to us as a way of sharing what we believe is important knowledge, but in line with our “Top Ten…” series point 27, we never want to be “preachy”. What we share, is our experience and knowledge. The things we’ve found work for us. You have to decide what is right for you and your situation. We don’t want to be just another site telling you how you can live the “The Good Life”. Our aim is to be unique. Sure we want to share our own experiences, but we also want to build an online community where we can all share from one another. We believe we’re always learning, and even when we give something back by sharing knowledge, we often find we learn something in return!
